About Us

Locomotion Models has grown from a desire to model a handful of locomotives into a tremendous collection allowing modellers to replicate the National Collection in miniature. Model manufacturers have supported the National Railway Museum in York and Locomotion in Shildon by producing exclusive replica models of the iconic engines, locomotives, carriages, and other railway vehicles from the National Collection.

Whether producing a pre-grouping 4-4-0, a BR blue ‘Western’, a Royal Class 47, a BR steam era ‘Pacific’ or an Improved Precedent Class, Locomotion Models has covered a diverse range of products suitable to a wide range of modellers.

Locomotion Models has been able to establish relationships and partnerships with some key players in the sector, some of which are also Science Museum Group corporate partners and/or licensees. We create new collaborations with these partners, sharing designs, tooling, and manufacturing costs to produce the locomotives. We use the resources we have in our archives, the knowledge of our curatorial teams and the exhibits themselves to ensure we get the most accurate representation possible.

From conception to the product going on sale, model making is a lengthy process and we always are looking ahead at which items we will be producing next. These ideas can be bases upon special moments from the railway history calendar, locomotive favourites and from customer suggestions.
