WD Austerity 2-10-0 No.90773 'North British' - DCC Ready Deposit

Clark Railworks are proud to announce our first OO gauge 1:76.2 - 4mm scale steam locomotive - the War Department Austerity 2-10-0, and we are happy to be taking not one but two running numbers as part of the Railway Icons range.

When Clark Railworks entered the OO Gauge market, they wanted to make an impact. The detailing and quality of components is of paramount importance to all their projects – and this model will boast a multitude of pipes, separately fitted parts and underside detailing. The model has been fully designed and engineered in the UK and will feature a high-quality coreless motor working with an equally high quality gear train, very fitting for such an imposing locomotive.

The penultimate WD 2-10-0 to be built was No. ‘73798’ and was released from North British, Glasgow, in August 1945 with works number 25644. As built, this locomotive carried the ‘North British’ nameplates - as at the time, this was the last WD 2-10-0 to be built, however upon completion of ‘73799’ these nameplates were copied and fitted to 799 too. It appears that 798 continued to carry ‘North British’ nameplates, even though 799 had been given copies of them. ‘73798’ was later given the BR number ‘90773’ and carried the ‘North British’ name plates until circa 1958. The loco was first allocated to 65F Grangemouth. It was loaned out to 12A Carlisle Kingmoor, returning to 65F Grangemouth in September 1952, where it remained until withdrawal in 1962.
